Watch the NEW UCC video: Believe

Both audio and video recording is a vital part of the Upper Canada Chorus musical experience. Watch and listen to UCC in our new video “Believe” – released this past Christmas. We are looking forward to recording and filming again in the 2026/2027 season.

Ens 1: Grades 1-4

Without the necessity of language, music expresses feeling and thought. It gives wings to imagination and voice to emotion. The goal of Ensemble-1 for each child is to transform their natural enthusiasm for discovery into a lifelong passion and aptitude for music.

Ens 2: Grades 4-8

Rooted in themes of exploration and confidence, Ensemble-2 cultivates the emerging artist while providing the foundational tools necessary for reading music, singing in harmony, breath support, and sound vocal technique.

Ens 3: Grades 8-12

As young teens seek out their own individuality, Ensemble-3 promotes both self-discovery and self-expression. Understanding our unique place in the tapestry of human diversity helps establish mutual respect – for the culture, opinions, traditions and artistry of others.

What We Do, And How…

We believe in the extraordinary capacity of each individual to adapt and learn, and to approach the world with an almost magical sense of wonder and discovery. It is this innate human spirit that launches young people on a quest to acquire language, to fascinate over the simple movements of nature, and to explore the natural sounds and rhythms all around us.

At Upper Canada Chorus, we use the most compelling attributes of live arts to create inspiration for young people and their audiences. We do it by focusing on 3 core educative principles. They are:

  • The Atmosphere of Environment

A positive, nurturing environment certainly includes the aesthetic surroundings, but also refers to the strong sense of community we believe is necessary for young artists to grow.

  • The Discipline of Habit

Blending both knowledge and action perfectly, experience in the arts prepares students for success in life. We encourage and cultivate the habitual behaviours of confidence and leadership.

  • The presentation of LIVING IDEAS

We believe arts education should be presented in such a way that it causes students to engage with the world and people around them.

Auditions and Registration…

The Upper Canada Chorus is an elite ensemble of highly engaged students. While it is not necessary to have formal music training prior to entering the ensemble, we do look for high levels of aptitude, commitment and enthusiasm in the audition process. Admission to all levels is by audition; we have a fixed number of spaces for each grade. You may request an audition by emailing admin@uppercanadachorus.com.

What to expect during an audition:

You do not need to prepare anything specific. The audition works like a 15-minute mini-lesson. Michelle Rawlins meets with every prospective student personally, and is excellent at creating a positive experience for both students and parents in the audition setting.

All rehearsals are held at our at our historic Heintzman House facility in Thornhill – 135 Bay Thorn Drive – off Yonge St., just south of Hwy 407.

UCC is… one of those rare experiences that brings magic to the world.

Susan Egan
The UCC experience is incomparable. I can’t imagine a more worthy extra-curricular activity for my 3 children.
Richard Parry, UCC Parent
You have helped us give our daughter the best musical education we could hope for and so much more. You have introduced many concepts and helped her learn and discover many things, not just about music, but also about herself.
Maya Zeltser, UCC Parent

My daughters have learned so much from their experiences with UCC. As well as receiving top-notch musical training, they have experienced the joy of sharing their passion for music with other like-minded youth. Perhaps most importantly, they have learned that by working hard at something they love, their lives can be immeasurably enriched.
